WELCOME TO THE COMMUNITY

Here at Bear Fitness we believe that the joys of movement should be accessible to everyone.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Westminster Council to bring fitness classes twice a week to people currently experiencing street homelessness.

BEAR FITNESS X STREET HOMELESSNESS

We used 3 different stages of intervention to create a real and lasting change.

We've been partnered with The Passage for 2 years.  Our gym is situated on the top floor of The Passage’s offices. The Passage provides support to those experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Those supported by The Passage can access counselling, healthcare services, art therapy and employment advice, as well as variety of housing options and more.

Stage 1:

Group sessions based within The Passage.

These comprised of clients of The Passage only. They were conducted in the resource centre of The Passage (in the canteen).

Stage 2:

We combined those individuals experiencing homelessness with the residents of the area. The aim being to use exercise to reduce and barriers between the two groups.

Stage 3:

During stage one, clients were given an opportunity to become personal trainers.  A clear pathway to employment through Bear Fitness and a chance to inspire their peers to show that there is a way out.

The project has been a success and we are very interested in expanding this program into other charitable organisations around London & The U.K.
